Just a general question. Why go through all of the effort to prove she’s a fake? I mean, obviously, the people that believe her are still going to believe her and those that don’t won’t. But in the end, she does admit that she’s been faking…you won’t get an award or anything. So why waste the effort? I can go either way on her, but then, my life goes on after watching her or not watching her…

I agree that intuition is not really “psychic”. And I hate the term “psychic powers”. It has been used so many times, and in so many ways, that it is really a useless term, although it is used quite efficiently by those “Psychic Network” type folks who claim to have such powers … and it is used quite often by the debunkers who know it is a useless term to begin with. And then there are the ignorant masses who willingly eat up the sensationalism.
At the same time I have experienced numerous instances of having known something I had no way to have known. I’m 49 and these experiences began when I was a child. I could fill a book with them. It wasn’t until many years later, as a student of psychology, that I became familiar with cognitive biases (hindsight bias, confirmation bias, etc.). When I was a child I did not know there were names for such things but I was already asking myself if I were guilty of them. From an early age I began trying to explain or rationalize these experiences away. I couldn’t then and I still can not. Sure, I can tell myself that a certain number could have been coincidence, anomalous. But I can’t say that all of them were. The information was as highly specific as it could have been. So, I keep an open mind about these things. Whatever these experiences are, I think they are completely natural … but to really even begin to observe them, much less understand them, requires a great deal of observation of one’s own thoughts, etc. And most people are simply not interested in making that kind of effort. They’d rather watch mindless television instead. Most people, Americans anyway, have no real sense of spirituality so they rely on religion and the “psychics” the same way they rely on junk food to feed themselves.
(And, yes, I understand what empathy is. When I refer to the “empath” I’m not referring to “empathy”. )

All we need do is pay attention to what goes on between our own ears. I’m not interested in being someone who has special powers; I’m interested in the human experience. I have made no “outlandish claims”. What is it, exactly, that puts you in such reactionary mode? I mean, come on, “alleged abilities”, outlandish claims”, “anecdotal testimonies”, “hearsay”? While the thought is entertaining at best the fact remains no such supernatural powers of the mind are real. The best advice is to learn and educate yourself so you are not a victim to those who proclaim such nonsense.

I believe intuition is a natural defense present in all creatures but within the human psyche I feel it relates to the ability to rationalize a situation and make a decision concerning outcome of that situation without prior knowledge. Nothing magical just one of the higher functions of the brain. It relies on present knowledge and the older a human, the better it determines a situation. How easy to marry new age thought to this most natural instinct and make it into some fantastical idea. Human super psychic powers do not exist.

@GodofWar as far as anyone mentioning anything about higher functions of the brain, that was mentioned by someone I’m assuming doesnt believe in psychics based on their entire post. you’re actually quoting Michonne, not Angela. Angela was just giving her opinion that she believes genuine psychics do exist. She might not have facts to back it up but this is something that can’t be dismissed as false altogether anyway, otherwise you wouldn’t need to have an entire website created to dispute its existence. Give the believer a break, she isn’t busting your balls and telling you what to believe. Obviously her opinion wasn’t strong enough to sway yours so stop sounding so offended over nothing. What you should have responded with is this: “Angela, I believe you mean what you say, but maybe there’s a possible scientific explanation for the things you experience that we have not discovered yet, and what we initially suspect as a source of these experiences may not be true.” Nobody knows anything for sure. We are still discovering things about ourselves and the universe we live in every day.

Actually, Katie, I DO think that one day we will have a scientific explanation for these things, an explanation that goes beyond cognitive bias. Also, I should have been clearer about what I meant when I referred to “genuine empaths and psychics”. I wasn’t thinking of the paid performers (obvious con artists), I was thinking of the people who have had genuine experiences, numerous instances in which they knew something that they could not have possibly known via input from the 5 physical senses. To be honest, I really don’t understand why this is such a strange idea. Has not everyone experienced this? Apparently not.
I’m always amazed at the way that some self-professed “skeptics” are so eager to deny experiences that they themselves have not had. Thank goodness orgasms have been replicated in the lab, monitored, measured, quantified. Otherwise, we’d have a handful of people accusing the rest of us of having some kind of conversion disorder.
I say “self-professed” skeptic because there seem to be a lot of fake skeptics out there. A genuine skeptic always keeps an open mind. I don’t see much of that here.

As a medium you don’t have a spirit shouting in you ear word for word. You get images, physical sensations, seeds of thoughts, gut feelings, words “drop in”. Every medium needs to interpret what they are getting, they are translators. It is not like having a conversation with the person next to you, therefore messages are not always necessarily expressed 100% accurately. If you can understand and accept this you can understand how Theresa appeared not to be 100% accurate in this case.

The only difference is is that those who proclaimed the Earth is round had sufficient evidence to back it up and that was in a time without technology. I’ve seen cold reading, I’m also skeptical of anyone claiming to be psychic, but I can tell the difference between real and fake because I understand how it works. I’m not interested in “proving” anything I just don’t tolerate ignorant slander. As a psychic I receive images in my minds eye. I get physical sensations, I hear words in my head and I get gut feelings which feel like knowing the answer to 1 + 1, my information is always accurate although on the odd occasion my interpretation is off.

It’d be pretty hard to fake reading someone. In most of her readings she’s naming things that people wouldn’t even think of. It’s not easy to pretend to know personal details of random strangers. I don’t believe one can get that kind of personal info from asking a couple of questions. ADDED: Shes human, she makes mistakes. With that being said, I wouldn’t expect her to get every reading perfect. P.S.She has more success than slip-ups. And well, clearly, you’re only seeing the slip-ups.

Yes I have heard that the “psychics” make mistakes. And I think it is rather convenient that in a lot of cases, of this, the “psychic” blames the person who is getting read. Or, u can yourself. Test her yourself to see if she gets it right. Make sure you ask the questions, not her. If she gives you a bad reading then it’d be safe to say, she’s most likely a fake. But this computerized voice is only naming mistakes of the readings where shes asking all of the questions. I haven’t seen her get much readings wrong anyway so I stick to what I said earlier; the day she says she’s fake I’ll believe it, either that or get a reading from her to test it out yourself.

Who most prob deals with the clients they all must get interviewed and have to sign things before they appear on the show. not one person (victim) is surprised when a camera is shoved in their face. The reason I am an agnostic now is because there isn’t evidence for a god, and the bible has way too many errors, contradictions, and things we KNOW didn’t happen in history that its impossible to reconcile, and therefore cant be god’s word. but I guess you don’t read it that much. or maybe you just read the same verses over and over, and not the whole thing.

I really don’t care if a medium is real or fake. So long as they allow people to feel a sense of peace afterwards, then who cares? God does not need LIES to bring comfort. Wrong. To be agnostic is to proclaim that deities are unknowable, which is an argumentum ad ignorantiam; a logical fallacy. Atheists don’t have to have a positive disbelief — they could have a negative belief. Furthermore, atheism is not the *assertion* that deities do not exist. Are you just as agnostic about the mud people that live beneath your house as well?

If you don’t believe in any deities, you are an atheist; you can still have a religion. Religion and theism are not synonyms, nor is atheism and science synonymous. Some atheists are Unitarian Universalists, for example, while some are Buddhists, et cetera. Not all atheists are scientists, as not all theists are religious.

Her scam is that she’s just like everyone else. An Italian mom, wife, who talks like Long Islanders but she has this amazing gift. It’s the perfect scam. No regulations, licenses, degrees are needed. Just a fast-talking saleswoman who knows the techniques used. She comes across as likable..sure she is..while she’s preying on emotions and stealing your money.

THINK! she asks questions.most believers don’t “see,” this. if she were talking to the dead, she wouldn’t have to ask you ANYTHING because they would be telling her what they want the survivor(s) to know. expert cold readers ask questions because they need you to (unknowingly) provide the very answers you want. put her in a room with someone she cannot pre screen. don’t allow her to ask a single question. the dead should instead be telling her precisely what they want her to say. she can’t do it

How about you do some research on the topic before spewing a subjective thought instead of providing objective evidence, which these so-called psychics, mediums, clergy, etc, have none of. Moreover, if anything that one would call “supernatural” should turn out to exist it would be a fact of nature like any other. To the four basic forces in the universe (gravity, electromagnetism, strong and weak nuclear force), we would add a fifth, the divine force. But it would all still be physics.

It’s dumb that people argue about her abilities. If you don’t believe it, don’t it’s none of your business then. Usually people who believe it have experienced something like she has. I believe her, of course the show is a bit commercial, but mediums do exist. I myself have experienced things like this and so has my cousin. All leads are followed up upon, however, no crimes have been solved that a psychic has contributed anything useful. Instead of helping them get through their grief, she reminds them to stay in that state instead of moving on. She can do lots of harm to the vulnerable people.Funny how no psychic offers no tangible evidence of the dead. Like, where is the key to the safe deposit box that contains the life insurance policy of the person who died. All you get is “they are fine” and shit.

Visit a medium who you’ve never seen before armed with that knowledge in mind, and pay acute attention to how she gathers her information. Volunteer nothing, don a poker face. Record the reading. I would stake a month’s pay that she gets the specifics wrong.

If a “UFO” were to land on the white house lawn and it was proven not to be a hoax, then a skeptic would accept the fact that alien beings visit earth. I mean this isnt cold reading to me. when I watch her shows, she breaks down and cries with the family several times while reading. I dont think thats acting. Shes a medium not an actress…I adore Teresa and I BELIEVE!!!!

They never have any defense for the indisputable evidence of probable deception…the use of a synthesized voice seems to be the only retort they can muster …
